Good News For Our Young Folk
It is great when we hear good news concerning our young local folk. Thank you Tornio. Thanks for helping and allowing our young skateboarders to make good use of an unused building in town. Thanks to Tornio youth work too.
What was once a supermarket became empty and unused. As from yesterday this empty building began its journey towards being an active skateboarding place. It has been a very long time coming but now things are finally moving. Skateboarders in our local areas have been frustrated for many years. They have been forced into underground places to survive. Now they have a place to practice and to make a kind of social club and meeting place.
What is more is that our young folk have a project that is their own. They must do the work themselves. They must plan the construction of the indoor arena and they must build it. They have their own project from start to finish. They will not just use this indoor skateboarding park they will plan it and build it and take responsibility for it. When this news came to me yesterday I felt like jumping up and down and yelling out yeeehaah. At last.
So I say thank you Tornio. The Kemi skateboarders will thank Tornio too.
I also say go on and onwards you young skateboarders. Go and show the world just what you can do. Amaze a few people if you want. This is your chance and, god forgive us, you get very few real chances to show the very best of yourselves in this over-regulated world that we live in. So I say good luck to you all. Go for it.
This kind of project is, I believe, so very necessary today. For all of us and not just young folk. However the young folk have a big need to get involved with their activities in the community. For too long we adults and we officials have used young folk mainly in the way of training them to be good consumers of fun and experience. This training for a consumer society sucks as we now see. Much better I say to encourage our young folk to create rather than merely consume. Let us encourage our young folk to be creative ad productive. Damn all that consumerism.
For decades we older types have designed a society whereby young folk cannot work in the real world. For our young folk most reality things are forbidden to them. We have done a big injustice to young folk.
With this feeling I wish the skateboarders bon voyage. If this project succeeds well then, who knows, we may have, in a few years time, a holiday away from school called ”Skateboarding Week”. That would be better than a silly ski holiday.
Again I also give thanks to those people in Tornio that have allowed and promoted this project. Such work helps people like me find a new hope for the future of local politics. That is another good journey if we can make it.

As more news of this project comes in I will try and give more details.
